whole books on the subject but has anyone got a little article on a beginners guide to keeping Dexters they could let me have ? Something very basic, setting out why and how you keep them and the like.
This would be for non dexter and cow keeping people.
I'd be really pleased if anyone could help me on this.

The only specific books on Dexters are few and far between. Although it is getting old and very dated now Dr Thrower's book is still of value, "The Dexter Cow and cattle keeping on a small scale". There are also various books on cattle keeping much less Dexter orientated but still worth reading. If you look at the eBay section on farming books you will see a regular stream of interesting publications including volumes on how to keep cows for smallholders and self sufficiency. Most of them are not specific to Dexters but may well give much of the info you are looking for. Back issues of the Dexter Bulletin are also full of useful information, but not so easy to come by.

Our Dexter Society puts out a little book called Breeders Handbook. It has 33 pages and is really handy for beginners. Perhaps I could photocopy the relevant pages and post them to you? Or maybe our Herd Registrar might sell you one?

About 2 years ago I asked for a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) link covering leg length, colour etc - there was a noticeable lack of support from the Forum

I was hoping for a short article to put onto a smallholder forum.
Something like a 1000 words or so. Anybody got something that would fit the bill ?
Anything would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
John.
