Some of my oldest pregnant ladies have developed bare patches- mostly on their legs,The cows have licked these and they are not scabby, but the skin appears thickened slightly, and there are tiny blood spots i think from a rough tongue. Is this lice do you all think, and would it be o.k. to give pregnant cows a pour on?

Lice if present should be visible to naked eye, certainly with a magnifier, over the back and neck. Bare patches on the legs could be due to mange, or wet conditions, or it may just be seasonal changes in the coat. If you need to treat mange or lice, the product used will be different. Cooper Spoton for example does lice but not mange. Mange is covered by most ivermectin type products but there are many of them. I am not aware of any restrictions because of pregnancy. If you are in doubt why not ask your vet, or perhaps a nearby Dexter owner may have had similar problems.
