I've got some friends who have expressed an interest in buying some Dexters off me and taking them back home to Southern Ireland.
I spoke to a nice lady at the Welsh Office animal health department who didn't even know that a Dexter was a breed of cow.
She said that she would ask someone and that she would send me some paper work .
This morning half a rain forrest was pushed through my door ! :O What a shocker !
Is it going to be worth it ?
I've not had my Dexters very long, but I thought Ireland was suposed to be the home of the breed. My friends are finding it very hard to find Dexters over there.

Not much help maybe, but we sent some to N Ireland in September.
You need an export licence from the State veterinary service, which should tie in with a import licence from Ireland that the importer has to apply for, you have to declare the haulier, you have to TB test the said export cattle and then there is a 30 day window( if i remember correctly) in which they have to travel, then a 24hr pre movement( fit to travel) certificate from the vet, who collates it all together, charges an arm and a leg for "admin" and thats it.....oh ..... then the BCMS contact you 4 weeks later to ask if you have any idea where the said animals dissappered to!
Lots of paperwork , that has a cost of time and fees, i think i had to add £33 per animal, and i tied them in with the TB test of a batch i needed to test for selling and moving because i am in a 2 year test area..................oh..................and since then, on pushing for detailed info on my TB test status, i find i have still got the holding number from my old address which they didnt change when i moved lock stock and barrell to a new house and land. Low and behold, i am now in a 4 year test area and free from restrictions as i should have been in the first place...5 years ago, and several unrequired herd tests later.
Do i sound synical?
Who me?
Just gratefull !
