Well Clive, I think we must have a more intelligent strain of dexters! We have 2 footpaths & a gated road thro' some of our grazing & our animals do not bother 'walkers' or vehicles & that includes the 4 bulls. They do. however, recognise us AND our vehicles & stroll down to say hello, which saves us walking a 30 acre field!!
We also have a crush! but how much easier to be able to catch a cow with a sore teat , tie it to the gate, treat it, reward her with a handful of food & away she goes! Our system works for us & was devised because we both worked fulltime.
Also, when 'walkers' leave a gate open, our landlord is easily able to get the escapees back into the field, with a bucket , even if its empty! Minimum hastle & stress for all, that's our motto!
Best wishes
