Davidw You can always fill the yoke with a length of wood on both sides. Piece of batten screwed to the yoke probably takes up enough space or you can readjust as needs later with a thicker piece.

We used to have a bar fixed to the door and on the top a chain--- as the beast puts his head in you pull the bar to his neck and hook the chain on the pin. Only problem is you need to be fairly strong to pull the chain tight enough to get it loose to release the So yokes are probably best and as they say the old yokes are the best.
