That's handy, with everything down to permanent pasture (how about trees? are they still goodies or have they changed their minds about that) lots of trees and no holidays we'll be carbon zero in no time. We've got wild orchids growing alongside the track for the first time so we must be doing something right. Now who is going to tell be they are a sign of pollution? :D

I have gone through life as big a sceptic as any, but in the present crisis it is all too easy to use it as an excuse to do nothing. In the last 200 years man has used his brains and resources to provide for his comforts to the exclusion of future consequences. Now we are asking for future generations to pay. It is true that the efforts of any individual are miniscule; it is similar to the argument that has torn this organisation apart. Unless we are prepared to put effort into working for everybody, the children are going to reap the result. None of us are likely to achieve the ideal, but we can make an effort to make a difference. Yes Clive, I read that article and it cheered me no end, it looks as if the little Dexter could have a bright future.

Yes Broomcroft. Here in NZ, our scientists are actually working on cows that burp less and have better stomach enzymes that are more efficient at breaking down grass. We are also working on high sugars grasses that give cows more energy. :;):

By the way Martin, Manuka honey will kill off the harmful bacteria in your stomach that causes ulcers. Its pleasant tasting too. :;):

Global warming van be accounted for by the sun's higher activity. The average temperature on Mars is rising as well. I don't think humans can be accused of causing that yet!

All the same, low intensity farming is logically better for the environment. Maybe families just have to be smaller? There are a number of countries in the world, where the natural birth rate is falling.
They have to keep their population stable by importing people from third world countries. If NZ didn't get so many immigrants, our population would have gone down. Its only the birth rates of the Maori and Pacific Islands families that are keeping us afloat as immigration has started dropping a bit as well.

I don't think that any country can afford to have their main cities just keep getting bigger though. There has to be a limit to their size and population density. Smaller cities are easier to get food to. Less distance to transport the food and less cost in petrol and diesel. Its starting to really matter now, the cost of transport.
