Much of the time that I am not chasing little black cows up and down hills is spent reading thrillers and detective stories and other such totally non-intellectual novels.
And I suppose that makes me curious. As this was the first meeting after the AGM with newly elected members(?) on Council how did they know that the 'mixture' wasn't working?
I have watched this topic with my jaw firmly clenched so that I did not say anything from my profound ignorance which may have made things worse (is this possible) and so far as I personally am concerned I can see the need for an excellent breed secratary - I breed pedigree animals - but I am less certain for the need for a dysfuntional Council.
I very much hope that the new dawn that we all hope for will appear but for the moment we seem to be in that dark just before it.

Well said Alistair. That "dark before the new dawn" as you put it is what is sometimes known as the fertile void and that fertility can easily result in bad things as well as good so we need to be on our guard.
I was at the Council Meeting on Nov.1st and given the explosiveness of the subject it was remarkable how well everyone there behaved and how the meeting remained largely constructive and non-personal throughout.
To the immense credit of all the Council Members each of them in turn agreed to answer the questions - "are they happy with Council and the way it is working today?" and "if not how they would change things for the better?"- and they also fully participated in the discussions their answers generated. Answering and discussing those questions lasted roughly 4 hours out of a 5 hour meeting.
What the meeting demonstrated and concluded was that we needed to act imediately to try and persuade our Secretary to continue with us in the short run or preferably in the long run and that major changes were needed in how the Society is managed. I was not to privy to the Council's separate discussions but presume that they decided that the best way for those two things to be delivered was for them to step down and instigate the Steering Group to get on with them.
In short a rational conclusion to a rational debate.
The dogs may still be barking but the camel train has moved on.

As far as I am concerned the Group is defunct throughredhill wrote:ngr2804 are you still the wales and bordering counties secretary as we keep putting people on to you and they cannot get hold of you, if you do not want to continue in the position there are two ladies waiting and willing to take over, (both Dexter keepers) and I will forward their names to the caretaker committee.
I too was at the meeting on the 1st and agree with Clive, perhaps Mr Huntley disagrees with allowing the members to express their opinion, at no point did we force the council to resign this was a decision made after the members present were asked to leave the meeting room so that the council members could discuss the situation.
Bill,
Castlemears Dexters, Forest of Dean.
lack of interest but great if someone wants to take it
on.
I have advised the DCS that I wished my name to be
removed from the Bulletin but unfortunately the last one
went out with my name and the address from which I
moved in July.
I am still Field Advisor for Monmouthshire and the DCS
do have my correct new address and phone number.
