Sort of new to this so a question of colour. Do Dun animals command a premium, as they do not seem to be that common. Might I say a big thank you for the response on my last post. We've kept Angus & Herefords for the last 18 mths and we (I) think that the Dexter has a future in the local meat supply, FWI keeps going on about food miles quite rightly so and local produce being as if not more important. I strongly think that there is a market for this animal, major supermarkets started (Angus) with a set breed and they now sell well. I know this as my worst Angus sold for more than my best Herefords.
Many thanks

I wonder if there really is any difference between an angus and a dexter beef-wise if they were raised together (ie. under the very same conditions)? I find that the set cost of killing really eats into the profits on the smaller carcase. On the other hand, the dexter would eat less and perhaps have a better bone-out ratio?

Just wondering.....
