slaughter for home use

??? I have an over thirty month steer that needs to go in the freezer.Because of his age the local abbatoir cannot do the job for me and the nearest over thirty month abbatoir cannot kill for home use as they cannot track individual animals through their system.Therefore home slaughter is my only alternative and i wonder if anybody can put me in touch with somebody who can do the job for me . i live in the mid wales area.

Hi Steve

I have just booked a steer into my butcher who can kill animals over the 24mths and he has just informed me that he can now take animals over 30mths, as if they are licenced for animals over 24mths this covers the over 30mths.

It may be different in wales but worth asking around.

Try you local hunt kennels as huntsman have a license to slaughter, but whether they can do it for home consumption I do not know.

thanks for the replies.I have now got the steer booked in to Ensors in Gloucester. Its a bit of a way to travel but at least we can legally sell his meat and we are taking his younger brother too.

However if meat is supposed to be traceable now where does that leave the original abbatoir i tried first ? ???
