Jo, what bull semen have you shipped to Canada? I do agree about the softness issue. My Shetland sheep wouldn't survive Shetland I'm sure. Neither would I!!

Not shipped any semen yet Kathy my bull is Breoch Sultan sired by Apple Joe dam Harron Sunbeam. He is black and very beefy height at 3yrs 2 months 44.5 inches and doesn't seem to have grown. Really fantastic temperament and has sired very good looking young. He was Breed Champion at The Great Yorkshire Show last year and his daughter was 3rd in a very strong class at the same show.
6 judges have seen him and all like him greatly.

Kathy, given the various info you have been given, I still think it comes down to - what are you happy with? Shetlands can live out with no overhead shelter, they can lamb out (but we don't like that!). It is no good not giving yours shelter if you are going to fret about their welfare every time it rains. Choose what you are comfortable with and stick with it. The time to make adjustments is when problems crop up!
