Global what?

In the last few weeks we have had the track washed out by torrential rain, now we have had a covering of snow (about 80mm) in November (I know you hardy bods up in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland wouldn't think anything of this small inconvenience but it is v unusual to get it this early here). It does occur to me that the Government and Greens have made a bit of an error. If they had threatened global cooling I think most would have done all they could to stop that. I might even have shelled out the £12,000 on solar panels which I was quoted recently.
However, on the plus side - is there anything nicer than seeing the long line of contentedly munching Dexters down the length of the barn and the sweet smell of good haylage after the morning and evening feeds. Lovely.

Sadly it seems that for most of Britain the result of global warming will be increased rainfall due to more evaportion from the oceans, higher water content of the atmosphere which in our area will give more rainfall and snow, although in already too hot areas such as Saharah it will get warmer still.

The pattern of our rain here seems to have changed and we hardly get any dry spells in summer to make hay etc. My cattle are in all winter not for their protection from cold or wind but just because the ground will not stand them being there for winter without wrecking the grass for the next year.

I don't think the predictions are wrong - it is just that we are unfortunate in a sense to be suffering from a paradoxical effect.

My husband is an environmental engineer and he says global warming may lead to shift in the Gulf Stream in which case we will all have severe arctic winters. Global warming will anyway lead to extreme weather conditions throughout the year, reccommend solar panels and wind generator, it will only take ten years to reccoup your outlay!!! Alternatively bring your cows into the sitting room for warmth!! He is off to chop wood now. Fiona

Well over here in the States I just got between 2-3 FEET of snow this last weekend, so I hope it doesn't get any colder for us, but maybe I'd take a little warmth. The Dexters just plow through it though so doesn't seem to bother them any.

In the southern hemisphere here, for the last couple of days it has been freezing. I put a woolly hat and jacket on my small son when we went outside this morning, hmm he is actually still wearing his jacket inside!! and we are in the last few days of spring. Only a few days ago my son was plastered in sunscreen/sunhat and playing outside with water. Also the south Island has had some snow too.

We've had heavy hail falls over the weekend and I live in the Northern part of the North Island of NZ. The temperature felt like a snow field, the wind was blowing quite hard. In a few days Summer offically starts? ???

Up until then we've had 20 degrees C routinely, for a number of weeks. As the Americans say - go figure.

Glad to know that we over here are not the only ones that have 'Good old British weather'. But whatever the weather we just have to get on with it, so best of luck wherever you are.

Only 10 years to recoup the outlay? I was told 70 - 90 years and not being a tortoise I'm not going to last that long. As for cows in the sitting room...... I don't think we can cram 65 in there. And then there are the other animals who wouldn't take kindly to being left out in the barn. I have a better idea. We'll shut up the house and move in with them!!! :p
