If you live in Wales, would joining be of benefit to you?
Have just been reviewing the post testing exemption regs to discover
Wales only – Cattle born into and moving from a
herd which is a member of a CHeCS TB cattle
health scheme and is certified at Level 10 as free of
TB for 10 years.

Re: Post Movement Testing
I think the advantages of joining the scheme will be mainly focusing efforts on how to best keepTB free, there are fairly strict biosecurity regulations, and you and your vet have to draw up a plan for your herd.

Re: Post Movement Testing
Don't put 'em off joining Duncan. OK, if you are already a scheme member for other diseases it is relatively painless. In an ideal world every cattle owner would have a closed herd , not attend shows or sales. Joining the scheme appears to be the only way of minimizing the effects of trade restraint imposed on cattle owners living in areas of the UK that are not TB free. I cannot see a TB free UK happening in my lifetime.

Re: Post Movement Testing
Jac I certainly don't want to put anyone off, but to encourage them. The biosecurity aspects of it are something that I suspect a lot of folk could do with help with, a lot of it may look difficult but when you have worked out what you have to do for your farm it becomes easier. Memebership of the scheme will flag up to your own private vet that you are intending taking action, and you and your vet will have access to some specialist advice from those that run the schemes. Definitely a good thing. I am so grateful to live in a TB free area. The national situation is dreadful.
