York Rare Breeds Show and Sale

Post by ann »

Just a reminder that the entries for the show and sale on 7th (Show) 8th Oct Sale close this coming Friday 16th Sept entries can be made via their website http://www.ylc.co.uk/rare-breeds/

Unfortunately this clashes with the AGM a resolution was passed many years ago that this would not happen, however I guess this is a bit unusual as they normal hold it on the 1st weekend in Oct and the Friday is in Sept, so I guess next year it will be back to the first weekend.

I have a cow, an older heifer and a young heifer entered. Out of good breeding cows with winning progeny. All short and could be shown.

I'm only taking sheep this year. Three Dexter heifers entered for Carlisle sale tomorrow.
Since the sale times have changed, it's become almost impossible to sell Dexters and primitive sheep single handed at York as both are in the ring at the same time. Since I'm not the only person interested in both, I think this has had a negative impact on both species.

You're welcome. I spoke to many people today, unfortunately didn't get time to get back to some but I did get five minutes to copy the figures. I think York should have separate sheep & cattle/everything else days really, or start selling later so you get chance to have a good look at the stock.

Looks as if prices were a bit better this year, possibly due to lower entries

I think the buyers were willing to pay a bit more and a few more underbidders could have pushed the prices further.
