Hello
Re: Hello
Hello Carrog,
Very nice to meet you, hope to virtually meet your cows as well soon, maybe you could post some pics?

Re: Hello
I'm trying to increase the number of dun animals - are those the two that I saw advertised on preloved recently?
Re: Hello
Whew dun heifers...I am a bit of a sucker for dun colouring myself, you obviously have good taste!
Here is a pic of my oldest cow Nutlin Ginger Spice being a hooligan a couple of months ago.
The one below is a cow I once owned but she is sadly now deceased but she was lovely! Woodmagic Palm Chat.

Re: Hello
I can't actually remember what they looked like, I just remember thinking 'ooh, some dun heifers, I'll take a look at that later', but when I searched later they had gone!Carrog wrote:Hi Rob
Yes they were! I'll get some pictures up - but I don't suppose they're particularly special examples. A good start for us though.

I'm also in the dun fan club, along with the wild type reds. We have two dun heifers at the moment; this one, pictured as a yearling, and a more recent purchase this spring.
Re: Hello
Very nice Rob, I like the first one best, the darker one of the two but the other one looks as if she has a lovely soft coat and therefore should have an equally soft udder when she calves.

Re: Hello
Thank you - we've also had two born over the years out of black cattle, the first was a steer that was registered as black (completely unexpected) and turned dun over the next three months and the second was a heifer but it wasn't the best of examples so she was culled. Having started out as a red & black herd our bought-in black bull carries dun but I didn't realise that at the time so it was a complete surprise with the first one!
Re: Hello
BTW, I stumbled upon some pictures of the cattle from the herd dispersal that was at Melton this year (the one that completely managed to pass me by) the other night, while looking for something else. And wished I hadn't.
Re: Hello
Rob...Those are some pretty cattle the black as well as the duns!
