Bull hire and TB testing

Post by SteveM »

I know that in some areas pre-movement testing is required, and 12 month testing is in place.

We are in 48 month region, and have a hired bull at moment, he has hopefully done his job for us at the moment so could go home before our routine test in early February.

He belongs to a new herd so suspect that they may be being tested shortly themselves.

Is it best to minimise the number of tests that cattle are subjected to?

Individual animals should not normally be tested any oftener than every 60 days.
Since we are all 48 months here it is rarely a bother, but on occasions it can be tricky - eg when imported animals are due for post movement testing and ministry have not told me, and I am presented with them at a routine test before the scheduled post movement test.
