farewell to our first dexter

Post by SteveM »

our first dexters braemer emma, arrived with us on 11th october 2001.

emma had been sold to a local butcher for fattening but was in calf to her father calving at 17 month old before coming to us.

She had 11 calves, her last daughter being born last november, humberdale emma.

sadly due to lameness and not getting back in calf we decided to let her go.

our bull has also sadly been lame for a while so buth went to carnaby on monday.

figures for those who may be interested.

cow dob 07/05/2000 cold dw 202.2 kg class O+5L
bull dob 12/02/2008 cold dw 330.6 kg class O+4L

how do these grades compare for cull animals?

Sad time.

I had our old bull put down at home recently he had been with us many years. Miss seeing him around the place.

for those interested in cull prices, Dawn meats at carnaby, near Bridlington paid out at £2 per kilo deadweight.

we aren't farm assured, think the price may have been a bit better if we had been as they can pass the beef onto more customers who insist on it.

payment takes around 10 days. we were happy with what we got.

That's an excellent price.

Sorry to hear about your cow. I've still got my first favourite and dreading the day when she has to go. Gale (born on a very windy night, roof blew off our barn).
