York Rare Breeds Sale's Prices

York Rare Breeds Sale

There was quite a few absentees from the sale, and the prices reflect in most cases the quality of the animals forward. The 2 bulls would have been IMHO better put through the meat action mart as at least that way the sellers would have got better prices as meat value, as I expect that they are going into the food chain anyway , which is a pity as in a couple of months people will be crying out for bulls and both where quiet. The North is not a very good place to sell shorts as apart from 2 show cows no shorts made much money.
I was very pleased to get good prices with my 3 young steers. :) :)

You have every right to be pleased with those steers Ann - I was impressed, and those prices were well deserved. :)

Someone was certainly determined to have them - do you know if they all went to the same buyer?

I didn't see who bought them but one of my friends thought the same person got them all.

They certainly did seem determined to have them.

I've had a sad day - the heifer I bought, catalogued as 'ready to kill' turned out to be at least six months in calf when they killed her today. :(

Rob i would have thought you could have some come back through the auction as you will be short on weight and maybe finish?

but a very un pleasant thing to happen, i would be quite annoyed at the thought of a calf born on the abattoir floor.

I think you could be right Dom - having just read the sale schedule it includes a bit about disputes over catalogue descriptions, so I'll ring them tomorrow.

I also found that it is the vendors responsibility to pay the transfer fees, not the purchaser - it pays to read the small print!

ETA - On second thoughts, I've e-mailed them tonight with all the details.
