Cows in

Post by domsmith »

Neighbour has the cows in, possibly for the winter. the kind of operation they are i doubt they will see the grass till next june. 180 head here, 280 head across the river all plus calves.

They turned out 1st week of june.

this is the guy that wrote the other week in the scottish farmer that he was looking into zero grazing beef cattle.

time to stop keeping cows when thats the only option.

he must have plenty of silage

This has been a really funny year, hope not to be repeated. Except for calvers, my cattle were out all winter with silage in feeders in the field, and then I had to bring them in during the summer for a time!!!! Good year for grass here, loads of silage as well, but so little gaps in the rain to be able to make it, only just got there.

It's hard to know what to do. I was planning to put in drought-resistant leys after last year! Now I'd be more inclined to look at Water Buffalo.
