Heat affecting the stock!

Post by Saffy »

We have just brought our herd in for the latter part of the afternoon as they are in a field with no shade and they were showing signs of stress due to the heat - this has never happened before. Also this morning we got up extra early to shear an old ewe with alot of fleece, as yesterday evening she was panting really hard with her tongue out and was seriously stressed.

We have moved the flock to a field with better shade.

This sudden hot weather is not suiting the stock!

Maybe it's the suddeness (is that a word?) of it. Caroline was having a horse lesson today and her horse started hyper-ventilating, so she had to pack up. It was quite scary apparently. Never happened before. I feel sorry for the sheep which haven't been sheared yet!

Shearing!! we wont even think about it until the end of july, if we are lucky...

They are seeking shade but i think if they cope with minus 19 they will get through at +25.
