can anyone suggest or point me in the right direction in getting a website for our cattle and beef. ive tried a couple of local firms here in essex but they are not very good. is anyone interested in building me a website . and any advice on costs would be good . thanks

We used Weebly.com for a free website host & you build the site yourself by following their very easy to use templates & insert what info you choose. You are in control and it's easy to alter, update or amend once you've built the site. Our site is FRITHDEXTERS.CO.UK if you want to look. We had already registered the domain name, but Weebly can do that for you too. We are not computer geeks, so if we can do it anyone can!

The cheapest quote I got for site creation & hosting was £300 & that was way too much for us!!!

We too use weebly.com and they give you great options for building your own website. It is a simple click and drag way to build a website and only took a few days to do. It saves online and you can edit it very easily, which is what I liked the most. Our old site was hard to update and so i never did it.

I've set up a couple of small websites and would be able to set up a basic website for you. I prefer content management based websites because then you can change the website without having to go back to a web designer. I've just started one for our farm at:

Well it cheered me up . I've got a Mac and there are a number of packages available to do your own website easily on your on own computer and then upload t to the web, without any special knowledge, but you still need to get used to it. Rapidweaver is one available for Mac but there isn't a PC version. But there must be something easy to use like Rapidweaver for PCS's surely?

Another idea could be to do a blog instead but make it look like a website. You could use http://www.wordpress.com. You just register a name, pick a theme, most of which are free, and then create pages and posts (articles). It's a bit wierd to start off with but once you've gotten used to it, it's easy. And it's all free unless you upgrade to the pro versions.

I created a blog with wordpress but haven't kept it up to date, so it's not very good http://broomcroft.wordpress.com, but it'll give you an idea of what you can do. Most of the things you see on the blog are automatic; the design, tag cloud, links to pages and posts (post just being a page with a story on it). All I have done is create the content and uploaded photos etc.

PS. Whilst you are creating your blog, you can tick a box to make it private so no-one can see it without a username and password. And if you use wordpress.com (NOT wordpress.org, which is complex) everything is done online, there is nothing on your computer except your own original material, text, photos.
