I am due to have a steer slaughtered and wondered if anyone had any views on the following. I run my Dexters as a group of Cows, heifers, steers, calves and a bull. At this time of year I give them a magnesium lick. My issue is regarding the steer due to go to slaughter. I have checked the details on the bucket but it does not state a withdrawal period for slaughter for meat. I have checked with the supplier who said there was not a withdrawal period. Does anyone have any views on leaving the lick in the field? I would need to remove the steers from the group if there was an issue but would rather leave them altogether rather than seperate them at this stage.

Any views welcome
Thanks
Mark

I forgot to add that the garlic licks for fly repellent have a withdrawal period but i presume that the garlic may taint the meat.

If it doesn't say there is a withdrawal period and the supplier confirmed this, then there is no withdrawal period.

I would't feed garlic in any form to fat stock. I have heard of people who's meat has had a funny flavour probably due to garlic. Not sure how long to get rid of the flavour but I would have thought a very long time is quite likely. On the other hand, some people may think it tastes better ???
