The Border Dexter Cattle Group has been in action over the summer and as a result of its activities there will be a revival of Dexter sales incorporated with the official RBST sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, on Saturday 18th Septermber.
The entries come from seven different consignors, and offer a wide variety of breeding, offering an ideal chance to purchase registered stock inspected by DCS Field Inspectors.
Prior to the sale the show will be judged by well known and respected judge Roger Robson.
The seven consignors have put together an impressive array of breeding stock, about 30 females and 3 breeding bulls. Between the entries there are some 15 different prefixes, offering the buyer a wide choice of bloodlines.
This wil be a great opportunity to acquire stock for both the established breeder and the new buyer, with the advantage of DCS standards of inspection, the excitement of a pre sale show, and the facilities of one of the North of England's most prestigious markets.
Consignments include animals bearing Arnaby, Ashieburn, Breoch, Burnside, Butterbox, Fothergill, Godshill, Hanginshaw, Harron, Kyreside, Needles Hall, Risplith, Planetree, Trainriggs and Windyknowe prefixes.
With all this on offer I expect to see faces from north, south, east and west around the ring.

Hi Duncan.
Hoping to be at the sale, cant find any details on auctioneers website yet.
What is the planned start time for the show, and then for the sale.
Its a 3.5-4 hour drive, is anyone arriving Friday night, any social gathering on the Friday?
Hope to see you all there.

Sorry I don't know if there is anything organised for the Friday night, but I would think some stock will be going in on the Friday evening. This is part of an RBST sale so there will be lots of people there as well as the Dexter delinquinents.
The catalogue is now available at

Hope to see some of you there.

Don't worry about me Allan, I will be in safe hands in the company of several DCS council members, ex council members and other northern breeders of high repute on Friday evening. So I can't possibly come to any harm can I???
I hope we have a good get together on Friday, and see some familiar faces and some new ones too. So do come and join us. If you are new to Dexters do come and make yourself known, either at the Friday night do or at the Show and Sale on Saturday.
I don't know for certain but I think this will be the largers ever sale of Dexters in Carlisle, and there are animals from a remarkable variety of breeding lines entered. I hear there are a few late entries as well.

Always difficult to keep track of everything as they go under the hammer, but from my VERY unofficial record, one bull sold for £1300, Harron Sonny Jim. There were 21 females sold, average £400.95, range £260 to £610, top rice being for Planetree Penelope with steer calf at foot. Two bulls and 9 females did not sell through the ring but some were, I think, sold afterwards. Five females in catalogue were not forward, but some late entries made up the numbers to approx those advertised.
I think general opinion amongst sellers was that it was not too bad a day for the current economic climate.
From this inspectors viewpoint (I have not conferred with Mary Kay on this report) the standard of animals was not bad, a few minor comments on some, and two did fail inspection because of angleberries, but went through the ring with that announced. One sold, one did not. Bodily condition of all animals there was good, no skinny dirty things like we get reports of from some sales.
My own opinion is that is was a good sale and definitely worth repeating next year. As well as a lot of input from organisers from the Borders Dexters the auctioneers did a lot for us and were very helpful.
