New Dexter Website - www.dex-info.net

Hi
I have constructed a new website aimed at sharing information about Dexter cattle and promoting the breed www.dex-info.net. I am based in New Zealand and this no doubt flavours the perspective I take. Any comments, corrections, contributions welcome. Thanks to those who have helped so far.

Site looks good - can you point me at a good site for smallholdings/lifestyle blocks in NZ (I have had enough of DEFRA and snow - in that order)

The best NZ site is www.lifestyleblock.co.nz. Another more recent one is www.smallkiwifarms.co.nz and the Smallfarmers Association can be found at www.smallfarmer.org.nz - the Association site has lots of links.

A gppd question to raise, but I am sure this won't happen. Dex-Info does not have a discussion board, nor does it list cattle for sale. Rather its aim is to point people to where these can be found on the Internet. Dextercattleforsale is given a deservedly prominent place in the lists and comments on these types of websites, so hopefully it should result in *more* contacts coming here. Once I get around to adding my Guide to Using Dexter Discussion Boards, it should encourage those with less confidence to try to get more active too.

I'll still be visiting this Discussion Board. The experience available on this site is excellent. It's hard to get vet information that's specific to the Dexter breed, anywhere else. So I'll definitely be keeping this site on my favourites list. :D

Just to alert anyone who is interested that I have added a few things to Dex-Info (www.dex-info.net) over the past few days. This includes info on a website of a German Dexter Association and the bull entries from the 1890 Irish herdbook - these are explained and linked in the "News" in the lefthand column of the homepage.

I will soon have finished adding to www.dex-info.net all the Dexter cow entries from the 1890 Irish Herdbook. Feedback I have received indicates a lot of interest in this, especially from outside the UK. Did you know that Queen Victoria is listed as an owner in the 1890 Herdbook? I am keen to continue to add important historical material that may not be well known, easily accessible, or available only in one country/region. If anyone has, for example, early Dexter Herd Books from their country, and would be willing to send me a scan or a photocopy, I would be willing to add it to the website, with proper acknowledgment. Any further ideas/suggestions about the website are also welcome.

I have just posted some photos of a bulldog calf on Dex-Info - these are distressing to view but it is important to be aware how tragic such calves are - see www.dex-info.net/bulldog_calf.htm. Thanks to Duncan MacIntyre for his kind provision of these photos. Over the last week or so, I have also been able to add some photos of older Dexters, largely due to Ted Neal's generous offer to allow me to scan material from his book on Dexters. I'm off to Australia for 10 days, and hope to be able to visit a Dexter breeder or two there along with the beaches and bush.
