Slaughtering cost

Hello All,
I think this has been breached before but if you are selling to somebody who runs a meat box type business who covers the slaughtering cost. Question number two how much is a fair price per kilo, i've not taken into account carcus grading. The reason i ask is at the Bath & West show i met someone who was very keen on taking any finished stock i had for thier box scheme/farmers markets.

What is the TBMM price for butchers at the moment anyone? Wouldn't that be a fair price? It sounds like you are considering an arrangement like a butcher where you deliver to an abattoir and they pay you for your animal and the abattoir all their costs. You only have to delivery to the abattoir. Or are you collecting the beef and delivering that as well, in which case charge more. Are you packaging? Again that's more.

I have been offered an outlet for finished animals. I have to deliver the animals and the other person picks up all slaughtering costs. The price is £2.30 a kilo dead weight, which is about half of the live weight.

That's about what we get with butchers. It varies a little.

The animals are delivered for slaughter by ourselves, the other party then picks up the meat, as far as i can see any packaging will be covered by the other party. If the carcus is sold dead weight would £2.30 a kilo be a fair price and then who pays the slaughtering cost. Bit of a novice at this if you haven't yet realised! many thanks for all your input.

£2.30 per kilo deadweight is minimum in my books, but OK for a simple deal, money straight away. The buyer pays all costs, i.e. abattoir, butchery, any packaging, post-kill transport. That's what I think.

thank you again for answering so quickly, as you may have guest this is our first Dexter sale and not being through the normal market it takes a lot of questions and not the normal route of answers. Most people know what a dexter is and that is where it ends, when you try and ask a price per kilo they don't know ( fair enough ), when you deal in Angus and other large animals some might look down on these animals. What they don't know is the quality of the meat from these animals, having had my first beef roast from a Dexter i was amazed, the flavour within the meat was unexpected to say the least, if it was available at Tesco then i would be sure the stock would alway's require replenishing. Thank you all again for your valued input.

I think we all dream of Dexter meat being so readily available, it would be like winning the lottery!
