Readers may be interested to know that the Scottish Dexter Group is alive and kicking. In the UK there are regional groups working under a constitution agreed by the UK Dexter Cattle Scociety. To date with few active Dexter owners in Scotland the Scottish Group has been a low key affair, but numbers are increasing and email etc should be making communication easier.
We held our AGM in Perth in March, with office bearers for the coming year elected as follows:
Chairman, Duncan MacIntyre
(email duncan.macintyre@btopenworld.com )
Secretary Carol Neilson
Treasurer Sandra Van Wijk
We were invited to have a Dexter display at Kilmacolm Show on 12th May. I took a cow with month old calf and a bulling heifer over on the ferry, Carol Neilson brought up promotional material from Annan, and Morton and Eleanor Muirhead came over from Arran. We all had a busy time with a constant stream of interested people, any of whom had never seen Dexter cattle before. Interest was at all levels, with many just showing the children the cute wee calf, but a significant number of seriouly interest individuals who may well go on to own Dexters. I have had enquiries by phone since. Several people were interested in buying beef, and one wholesale butcher expressed interest in handling some beef for us.
The next planned event on the Scottish Dexter Calendar is Jo Kemp's open day at Breoch Park, New Abbey, Dumfries - for further details contact Jo Kemp or myself.

Is it possible to join online? (I've looked on www.dextercattlesociety.co.uk but maybe I'm missing something!) Can the form(s) be downloaded from the site?

June, or anyone wishing to join the Scottish Group, please email me at duncan.macintyre@btopenworld.com and please give your contact details, address, phone number etc and I will pass your details on to our Sectretary and Treasurer. That will avoid you posting your details in a public site.
The group really struggles to hold together because of the distances between us all, but I think the time has come to improve e-communications between us and make contact and information exchange easier that way.
