I have just spoken to ITV who have emailed me this...

"It was good to speak to you just now. As I mentioned ITV are making a show about classic British Dishes, whether they are starter, main course or pudd. We have been holding filmed auditions around the country and are coming to Birmingham on Saturday (see attachment).

We would like to invite people to come along with a dish and pitch it to our panel of judges (John Burton-Race, Ed Baines & Jilly Goolden) in a bid to find Britains best dish. As I mentioned the panel are keen on meaty pies of all descriptions especially steamed suet pies and we haven’t had many of these up to now so they should do well.

Please let me know if you know anyone who would like to take part (amateurs only!) then please give me a call or just turn up on the day with your dish!"

If you're interested in being on TV, you need to move quickly. They're especially interested in getting someone, or more than one, who does homemade traditional meat pies. It must NOT be a professional chef or a company.

Because of time-scale please call me on my mobile if you're interested and by all means contact anyone else you might think fits the bill and give them my name and number.

Cheers

Apologies, I originally said that it must be a professional chef or company. Should have said it must NOT be a professional chef or company. They're not looking for TV personalities, just ordinary people cooking nice pies or meat suet puddings.

If there had been more lead in time, both Paul & myself would have been interested. However, Paul is banged up in hospital with pulmonary embolisms &, as Rent a Peasant, I'm doing History Belongs to You on Saturday for which I have yet to do any preparation. So pie making is rather out of the question just now. Shame as the late Med/Tudor Christmas Pies are fun to make.

Louisa, that would have been perfect. Sorry about short notice.

Well we've got at least one person, maybe two, going along with Dexter Beef Pies and be auditioned by ITV tomorrow, Saturday morning in Birmingham. So fingers-crossed! My wife Caroline has volunteered even though we don't have a kitchen. It is being replaced at this very moment. She had to cook it at our neighbours house. It looks yummy.

Good luck to you all, this is just the sort of advertising you need Clive, pat on the back for you. Is anyone wearing a Dexter promo top?
