Almost completed the turn-out of our spring calvers. Although three weeks later calving this year, all my cows were obviously 'cycling' before the bulls went in on 12 June last year! The first calf arrived on the 1 April. To date the 28 April, we have had 25 out of the 27 in the group calve with 24 live calves; one born dead - full term calf, but small in size, out of a non-short cow. Cows have calved down with an abundance of milk and can see calves growing daily.
I have weighed some calves shortly after birth:
Heifers 18-22kgs
Males 24-26kgs
Number of heifers born 9
Number of males born 15

Pretty please, could you email me all the weights for males & females, not just the range & mean. That would be a very helpful addition to the calf birth weight data I'm attempting to accumulate.
Something else I can say I'm actively pursuing at Post Grad Review Panel on 4th May. It's concentrating the mind wonderfully, I believe a hemp rope has a similar effect!
Thanks.
