I had a call this morning to say that there is a rumour that the Secretary has been fired or made redundant. Not sure which as there’s a difference.
Anyone know anything?

Registration Bull (including DNA test) up to 12 months of age £46.00 Bull (including DNA test) 12 - 24 months of age £66.00 Bull (including DNA test) over 24 months of age £176.00 Does anyone know if it is harder to do the DNA testing for an older bull or is it simply the DCS encouraging breeders to...

Re: The Blackmagic Herd
Jac, unfortunately its current circumstances that have brought this about - I need to devote more time to caring for my son and that's our priority for now. Quarts and pint pots! We will be keeping the crush and other hardware in the hope that in a couple of years time we may be able to start again....

Herd Reduction
Dear All, Due to a change of circumstances here, which some of you are aware of, we are very significantly reducing our herd - rather too many to easily put on the for sale pages so I am listing them here (Mark I trust that this will be acceptable? ) Nearly all our stock is either pure Woodmagic or ...

Re: UK Registry requirements
Can anyone demonstrate that they are able to charge a premium for higher health stock, either on the hoof or as beef?

Re: UK Registry requirements
If it is that much of a concern why doesn't the DCS go to someone like the SRUC, negotiate a reduced fee onto the Premium Cattle Health Scheme for all DCS members and then sing it from the roof tops that as a breed we are driving forward to eradicate what we can and that all registered Dexters are p...

Calf - hand rearing help please.
It looks possible that yesterday's calf is going to need hand-rearing. What's the best way to do it? I know the priority is to get her to accept it and do the job but it's not looking good at the moment. Could someone give me a daily feed guide please, starting from day 2 onwards (we stripped colost...

Re: linear assessment price premium
Lots of interesting responses. I deliberately asked a short question with no backup to see where it would go. Like many I have only so much in my piggybank so I like try so see what benefits I get for my pound spent. Hence the question. From what I have read it appears that I may not get a financial...

Re: DCS AGM postponed
It's not necessarily lack of interest. Sometimes people just have other priorities. Our son was taken very, very seriously ill in January in a coma and then hospital for 13 weeks. My wife and I moved to Southampton. She came back at the end of January and I came back with my son at the end of August...

Re: Beef from old cows
we sent a 16 yr old bull up the hill a couple of years back and got 92Kgs of sausages and burgers.
They were stunning and could have sold them three times over.

Re: Staggers - so close!
I think the secret is what else they are getting ie what is the amount of Mag in the environment and whats their uptake and I don't know the answer to that one. We are on old PP nothing new here although not the type of ground you are on. We know the area is low on Mag and Beryl was very very firm w...

Re: Staggers - so close!
We wont be putting the bull in to them until about June as we are changing back to spring calving. What is the connection between seasons and staggers? I am concerned that we are not providing them with enough mag. The rolls are 1.5% Mag and they each get about 1kg of nuts per day which they have ha...

Re: Staggers - so close!
Thanks Duncan. They all get the Suckler Cow Rolls that Mole Valley make and get half a scoop each a day. They are a mineral roll including mag, selenium etc. They love them and will come running for them. We are upping their DM intake as the ground is very wet and there is not a lot of grass left bu...
