If I am to keep some dexters at my friends farm, what do I do about numbers? Do I use her herd number and holding number? Do I get a new herd number and use her holding number? What happens re. paperwork? Does she keep all the movement records etc. or do I?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Saffy. I have been looking for a while now but there dosen't seem to be that many nice short heffers out there at a reasonable price. Seen a few but they are about £1000.

I'm in a bit of a dilema - I hope you lot can help me. I have beemn offered two dexters. One is the mother, 5 years old. The other is the calf, 9 months old and is still horned. I was going to take thecalf, halter train her and show her but I'm not sure now. I have been advised to get the horns of ...

What are the chances of dehorning a 9 month old heffer with about 2 inch horns neatly without them growing back or ending up as stubs? Or does it just come down to the vet?

I have been offered a 9 month old calf but she is quite small for her age. She seems in proportion but I am worried she may not make the size for showing and worried her size might effect her later on for breeding? Wondering if anyone out there can offer any advice - mainly as to what sort of show ...

Thanks everyone. Who on here uses head collars on their animals all the time? Sounds a good idea but I would be worried they would get caught.

Hi All,

What size halter/s do you guys use for your dexters? Someone told me sheep halters but their heads aren't that small, lol! Can anyone help? It's for a short heifer.

Thanks in advance.

Is it true dexters are very head strong and hard to halter train?

The one I helped to train seemed easy enough but I have heard rumours that they are one of the harder breeds.

I understand that - conformation is the key as with anything. But what I mean is, can you show an older dexter? Is it true they no longer look as good?

What's the best age to show a dexter? As a yearling, or as a heifer, a cow/bull? Are they like some breeds when they are in their prime at 3 year? Is there show life short?

Hi,

I know this is a Dexter Discussion Board but I just wondered if any of you on here know of any breeders/exhibitors of Hereford Cattle in Kent/Essex?

Thanks,
Jamie

Ok, thanks. So do they still need to look symmetrical and desirable or does the judge no longer look at this?

Thanks,
Jamie

Anyone on here think they can help? Also, does anyone know where I can view the Dexter Breed Standard?

Thanks,
