Short-legged heifers for sale.
Hi, I have two young homebred short-legged heifers for sale. One black, one dunn, both have been shown twice, the dunn having won twice and the black a third. I will sell them privately, or if not they will go to the Exeter sale in september. I am situated near Umberleigh/Barnstaple North Devon and ...

Re: Farm Plastic Recycling-Advice please
Hi, The cheapest way to get rid of it is at your local refuse depot. I think down here it is about £140 a ton, it takes a lot of wrap to make a ton, as long as you are sensible and keep it dry. I would advise contacting your local depot and checking on the price they charge. What I do is role up the...

Looking fof young bull
Hi, I am looking for a young bull to bring on, any age from six months upwards considered. I have mainly Knightsway breeding, so am looking for a different line. It has to be a non-short black with a beefy conformation. I DO NOT want a polled animal and it MUST NOT have Woodmagic breeding. Fussy b**...

Short-legged heifers
Hi, I have been asked to find some short-legged heifer calves for someone, he would prefer them straight off the cow. Must not be woodmagic, other than that not fussy as long as they have a good temperament and a bit of shape. Preferably in the westcountry unless the price is right, his words not mi...

Re: Sale of Pedigree Dexter Cattle
Hi, I went to the Exeter sale, although there were a lot of people in the sale ring, not many were buyers. A lot of them were there just to gauge the market. Unfortunately several good heifers went to the meat men. There were some nice 18 month old heifers from between £190 and £230, they were stole...

Banberries herd reduction.
Hi,
Just a note to say that all of the females and steers are now sold.
I just have two 2010 born short-legged bulls left, one red, one black, both are very beefy and have an excellent temperament. Both are halter trained and the red bull has been shown.
Marcus.

Re: 16 year old cow - time for retirement?
I had a longhorn cow that was 24, she had not calved for two years but was a bit of a pet and was still looking well, so I kept her. I said to my wife that that summer would be her last because she was going back in condition. I found out why one day when I saw her with a dexter cross heifer calf. I...

Re: Wish i hadnt done that!
Hi, I run bulls together with no problems, but as with rams I always shut them in a house tightly together for half a day first. This allows them to sniff each other and mess around a bit, but does not allow them room enough to do each other damage. Then I put them into a small yard for a while and ...

I used to have a longhorn cow who bulled strongly when in calf. and she would stand to any cow, but the bull never showed any interest in her.

Re: How soon can baled silage be fed?
Hi..
I never feed big bales until they have had at least six weeks, if you feed before it tends to go straight through them. Hope this helps.

Re: Slaugtering a 6 year old cow
As far as I am aware there is no such rule. It used to be that you had to pay more to kill it after 48 months because of the compulsory bse test, but this has just been raised to 72months so it would still apply to your cow.As long as an animal is not born pre 1996 there is no reason for it not to g...
