I have a heifer that is coming up to the time to get her in calf. I was wondering what age or weight others generally put their heifers in calf at, and whether or not shorts or non-shorts should go to bull at a different age or weight.

hi clive,

fodder beet can be fed whole and doesn't have to be cleaned providing it is harvested in dry weather.

Hi Clive, My father's dairy and beef cattle through the winter get fed on a mixture of foods including grass silage, maize silage, whole crop silage, crimped corn, straw, Rape, Soya, and fodder beet. But you obviously can’t do this small scale. So for my Dexters I have fed them hay/haylage and fed ...

Hi issy, Sounds a bit worse than I thought. Generally in the Friesians you get digital in 1 or both of the back feet but we have never had it in all four feet. If it is spreading up to the hock it could be infected and may need draining. Also check the rest of your herd for any signs of digital as ...

Hi Issy, Sounds to me like a typical case of digital. This is very common in our Holstein Friesian. One of the best thing and cheapest thing we use is ‘Duphacycline 100’ (a purple coloured spray). And in bad cases some ‘Pen Strep’ or ‘Excenel’. If posible i would bring her in on clean straw away fr...
