Re: Wintering Out
Our Cattle winter out at 1000- 1400 ft, 18 cattle on 35 sloping acres with patches of natural woodland for shelter, free draining most of the time. We usually don't need to put hay out until late January, we know they want food when they start hanging about the yard gate instead of grazing. Only cal...

Re: Abattoir prices?
Thank you Rob, Most of our steers so far have sold by word & mouth to friends (they collect from abattoir) but next year I'm going to have to find many more beef eating friends or another outlet for steers

Re: Abattoir prices?
No one else with any ideas on prices?
I have been in touch with a different local but massive abattoir today and they didn't even want to talk about Dexter cattle, pity as they are lovely cattle and produce wonderful beef

Re: Advice on keeping Dexters healthy
Ours are outside with hay or haylage and a general lick, they have pour on at TB testing time and that's it! Re: CAP Reforms...

Re: CAP Reforms...
My farm manages a small profit without subsidies, much to the amazement of my neighbours but with the new payment changes in Wales I will be applying for national reserve entitlement this year. I agree that capital grants would be better than a pay / pension cheque every December. My farm needs inve...

Re: Isn't it about time that...
I would like a Facebook page. I'm a member of many groups that use Facebook to advertise events and exchange ideas. There are a few Dexter people on there doing an excellent job already. It would be an easy way for many people to find out what sales are coming up with photos of the animals. If peopl...
