Re: TB Sweepstake
It is a situation that I have seen in several of my farming friends and never really understood what it means. Now the boot is on my foot I am starting to see what all the fuss is about!!

Re: Aging Beef
We hang for 28days and have done longer due to a butchers miscalculation with his diary and always been pleased with the result. So I think we will stick with what is working.

Re: A subject for another thread
Shaun what is the live weight of your cattle when you get 100kg of meat in fridge Sorry but I dont have the facility to weigh them before they go so I only have the on hook weight. Mine usually go when it suits me for grass management and I dont keep any stocck on site around my TB test date so I g...

Re: A subject for another thread
I dont want to bred. I am happy going what Rob said, the 4 that I am picking up in the next 2 weeks havent hit the classifieds. They are from people that I have dealt with before. One of them is happy that he knows I will take 2 animals from him every August, I pay up and turn up. No messing around ...

Re: A subject for another thread
But I am not forcing them to sell them to me at that price. There are some people that want to keep a few cows, breed a few, and sell them on. If I can use my land to produce some high quality beef at a reasonable cost then I consider, good for me. I see what you are saying, if you are getting £1000...

Re: A subject for another thread
I have been following this thread but to me it doesnt seem to be going any where. I usually buy 2 steers each year to fatten for my and family members. I have paid between £200 to £225 for usually 15/16 month old and they go from me before they are 30 months old. This year I have also been offered a...

That sort of offer makes me wonder how they kee...

Re: Finally taken the plunge
We already do our own sheep pigs and Turkeys so it has just been a case of trying to juggle the land to get them to fit!!
It was only going to be Dexters as we have tried it and liked it so much. Will be very disappointed if our end result is not as good as what we have tried!!!

Re: Deadweights and cutting spec!
Hi Mima, With regard to selling Dexter beef we always make sure we have customers available prior to slaughter. As a general rule we sell the beef in quarters ie four boxes, each comprising an equal mix of fore and hind quarter cuts. On occasion we will split the boxes to suit individual customer r...
