Re: dexter crossing
Hi Sues, we might have something for you to consider. We have 2 Australian Lowline Angus Bulls. They are a pure Angus bull that has been selectively bred since 1929,for a docile temperament, easy to handle, ease of calving, 2week shorter gestation period, naturally polled, better marbling and a bigg...

Re: Todays thoughts!
Dom, your discussion of the day was a very interesting one.we have something that might be an alternative to the full sixed Angus. The Australian Lowline (which is a pure bred Angus) only stands about 1.2metres when fully grown. They are easy on the land like the Dexter, they will finish on grass an...

Re: Good luck needed!!!
Hi, just wondered if you were implanting an embryo? If so, what breed is it? How much did it cost for the vet to get her ready and for genus to implant? We are very interested in importing embryos from Australia and America and wondered if you could give us a little bit more information please. Many...

Re: Sand Cracks - prevention
I also have ponies, they often get dry hooves in summer when on very restricted grazing. I would recommend an oil based hoof product for horses, don't use any that are called "hoof oil" though as they are quite drying and only used for showing. Cornicresine is an excellent product, althoug...

Re: Polled Animals
Really interested to read the discussion, I had always assumed that "polled" meant naturally born without any horns. But I now know differently, we have just had two calfs, one dexter is naturally polled, the other is just showing some "buds", the bulls were Lowlines, which are n...

Re: Viral Papilloma - Warts - Bad ones!
Hi, we have a cow who is of Woodmagic lines, she came as a 9month old calf and had no obvious warts. Now aged 20months she has two small warts on her eye and a collection if 3 cauliflower looking ones, about golfball size each, on her neck. The vet looked a couple of weeks ago and said they were lik...

Re: Dexter x Australian Lowline
Clive, thanks for the info, I hope you get a bottle of wine at Christmas for your support on this discussion board! A pure Lowline will weigh average of 18kg and will double it's birth weight after 6weeks. I don't know a weaning weight, but a year old heifer would weigh 190kg. We will monitor her an...

Re: Dexter x Australian Lowline
We have now weighed the little calf, and sorry yes it is kg 18kg and 19inches tall! Very strong little heifer. Is this a similar size and weight to a pure dexter calf? What sort of weight gain should we expect over the next few weeks/months? (if this was a pure Dexter) we will weigh and measure her ...

Dexter x Australian Lowline
Wanted to announce the safe arrival of the first Australian lowline x Dexter this morning, and it's a beautiful black heifer calf. She weighs about 18kg, will weigh her tomorrow, but she is small. Perfectly formed with no sign of any dwarfism or snorter. Very happy first time grandparents.

Cow not in calf, does it mean the end?
We have just had the vet out and he confirmed our fears, our 8yr old Dexter is not in calf. (some of you might say she had a lucky escape as she was running with a Lowline Angus bull!) our question is, what do we do with her? She is a nice cow, rather fat, has had previous calfs, and is very materna...

Re: Weaning
Hi, that sounds very interesting, I will look her up tomorrow. We have a cow who naturally weaned her calf, but when we were working out the calfs age, I think she must have been nearly a year!! So I think the cow had probably had enough! The cow has given herself a good 4 month rest before she calve...

Dexter cross Australian Lowline
Hi, we have joined this forum after weeks of enjoying reading all the various discussions. We have got 3 dexter cows, 1 heifer and a dexter calf. We also have two Australian Lowline bulls ( pure Angus)that were the first ones to be bred in the UK. We have put these to our cows and are imminently awa...
