Re: Is it the end?
I do use Face book and do look in on the Dexter cattle page on there. The traffic is not vast. It is good for easy access to Photos, but as others have mentioned there is no static content. By that I mean each time you go on you get a differant subset of entrys. This means that past things you have ...

Company used for Genetic testing.
Could someone remind me what is the company that does the Genetic testing for the Society. I need to pass on the name for a farmer here who wants to test some sheep.

Exporting to Switzerland
I am contemplating advertising my Bull in Switzerland as the market there is a little healthier than it is here in France, and only about 400 miles from me. BUT they are not in the EU and there maybe many red-tape snags I haven't thought of. And the bureaucrats are much more creative that I am. Has ...

Re: PLANETREE TALOS M5584
Thank you Rob. I had not thought of checking Progeny to test the hypothesis. I see what you mean of 5/6 polled offspring I saw only one had a polled mother.
Heterozygous is better than not at all.
Any one know of any other AI bulls (in Europe) who are polled?
Chrissie.

PLANETREE TALOS M5584
Does any one know if he (PLANETREE TALOS M5584 ) is polled? His paternal Grand sire and Paternal Grand Dam are but there the chain of details stops. I know that there is a section of the Dexter owners who consider the polled gene with disfavor, so this maybe why there is no mention of polled/hornedn...

Re: Warts
Thanks Duncan, Its good to know that they are self limiting. Interesting that there was a treatment at one time. I think the general opinion here (in France) is they are not important enough to spend money on! :( The ones on the teats are the worst as they rub as the calves suck, and leave raw patch...

Warts
Do any of you have any treatments for (bovine) warts. None of my cows came with (obvious) warts, they occurred in a rash about 18 months ago on all but my oldest cow (aged 15). The vet suggested that biting insects bring it in, and we have plenty of those, as I can attest. (They eat me when I sit do...

Blind Calf
We have a calf born Sunday, who is blind/partially sighted. We had to have the vet out to see his mother as she had a retained placenta, and was looking very sorry for herself. The vet had a look at him and confirmed he was blind and said that he had no aqueous humours in his eyes. I would like to a...

The problems in France
We have a very small herd on 8 hectares in the south of France, in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The number of (registered) pedigree Dexter herds in France can be counted on one hand. And this is a large place. There is only one other herd within 300 kilometers. There are other animals that are, or...

Hi Rick
We are in the process of registering our bull Tannisfield Elipse. We are only 94 kilometer from you.
If you have no joy with AI we may be able to help.
