Re: DEXTER calendar 2015
With sincere apologies I must amend details regarding our calendar . Last year we sold the calendar to all member of the Dexter Society for £6 which included postage . Unfortunately the Post Office in their wisdom have now raised the bar and they now class our calendar as a small parcel . This means...

Twins
My black Ashieburn cow has just produced two lovely twin red calves AI to Planetree Talos . Both are very healthy , not that it's a down side but they are heifer and bull . As we know if a heifer is twined with a bull calf the heifer is normally infertile . Duncan MacIntyre has told me that this is ...

Re: Ear Tags
This does not actually answer your question but thought you may be interested . I have not really had much of a problem requiring replacements so I use Zee tag BVD tester tags . If you only breed a few calves under ten you should try the tester BVD tester tags , they cost about £ 6.00 each . It soun...

Re: Back on the high horse
Hi Rob , it is frustrating , i can only inform you of what we hope will happen in Scotland , firstly we don't have Dexters going through the market or at least very seldom , auction houses in Scotland are quite reluctant to accept cattle from over the border . If Dexters enter the market in Scotland...

Re: Back on the high horse
I am sorry I seem to be in the minority in the hope that breeders would like more money for their pure pedigree Dexter breeding females , how silly was I ?. but reading the replays everyone is more concerned talking about the price of Dexter beef which I have no problem with and that the Dexter shou...

Re: Back on the high horse
We all know as we have stated that good Dexter cattle prices are far too low , Rob went to the trouble of working out selling averages , I was interested to see that the colour of an animal takes presedense , it confirms that many Dexters are being bought more as a novelty , there is no difference i...

Re: Back on the high horse
Hi Dominic How right you are I am back at it again , until the right people recognise that Dexters have a place in the market I will keep at it . Good pure pedigree Dexter cattle producing good quality Dexter calves have a very good place in the production of beef , if we can organise those breeding...

Re: Back on the high horse
Hi Rob Many buyers of Dexters are those who have just purchased a premise which has a few acres attached , because they have this land they decide to buy a few animals , because of low priced Dexters they are appealing . Let's face it you can buy a Dexter less than a pedigree poodle puppy . If Dexte...

Re: Back on the high horse
When you really think about it , the breed is getting in a mess , the majority of what's being sold as Dexter beef may have partly Dexter but it's crossed so no matter what you say it ain't. Other breeders are using Dexter cows as surrogate mothers because they do a better job than a their own breed...
