Hiring bull
After having my 2 dexter cows A.I.'d this year and both not successful , I was wondering (only thinking at the moment) if anyone on the Powys/Shropshire boarder has a bull to hire. The girls are my pets but I would also like reap some (I know small) benefits. I didn't have them as ornaments!!!! (as ...

Re: To castrate or not
As my husband has bull beef on our farm, as an experiment(so he says) we (he!) is going to leave my bull calf to see what he turns out like and what he will be like at 16 months as that is when his other bulls go. So we shall wait and see.

Re: Latest Addition
We had our first Dexter calf this week, he is so cute.Within 1/2 hour he had his first feed and was trying to run around the pen. Our Hereford and limmis are never that keen and we usually have to help them suckle. They say the best things come in little packages!!

Not sure if AI worked as we saw some very strange behaviour from another cow who we thought was calving. How long should you leave then before they are pd?

Not sure if we can buy injections, will have to look into that for next time. We had thought of hiring a bull but as these are only really my pets we haven't got the space for a bull.

Weaning
I've been a farmers wife for over 20 years now but now I have 4 dexters of my own I found it really sad today that we had to wean Tango. We put her in a shed with other heifers but she didn't like it and escaped through a feeder! Tiza her mum, doesn't seem that bothered, I think she wants a well ear...
