Re: 23 month old beef

We would certainly get him slaughtered. We supplied a local high end establishment every four weeks for 11 years with steers and heifers around 20-24 months of age (they had 146 carcasses off us) until it was sold in 2016. We continued to supply the new owners (no longer privately owned), payment wa...

Re: Dexter Sale at Exeter Livestock Market

It would be great to supply more to this pub, but every four weeks is fine. They have had 146 Dexters off us since opening 11 years ago! As someone said recently, their customers have eaten a whole herd! We know the beef is the best and the feedback from everyone is fantastic, but we find it's best ...

Re: Dexter Sale at Exeter Livestock Market

How about this for an upset price! Just sold a 30 month old heifer for beef to a local pub/restaurant - £1100! I wanted to bring her into the herd - lovely heifer, but wouldn't hold to the bull.

Re: Traditional Breeds Meat Marketing

Hi Mark Rob's journey is 24 miles each way to Mutch Meats. Cost of travelling can be prohibitive and will need to be taken into consideration. We deliver to Witney by 9am on a Thursday morning. The butcher makes payment direct to vendor. It was originally taking up to at least seven weeks to receive...

Re: Moreton In Marsh Show

Hi Natasha, It was lovely to see the Dexters in the middle of the larger cattle during the 'parade' they're usually at the back like an after thought! Well done. We used to show at Moreton and there were up to 15 in the Dexter classes with exhibitors from a long way off. There were so may cattle in ...

Re: Birth Notifications

Hi Rob, I don't what the answer is to increase the value at sales. As an exercise, I did speak to Voyce Pullince Pullin at Cirencester Livestock Market recently and even though our cattle are grading at R4L or 0+4L/0-4L with weights of around 190kgs/200kgs d/w, they would still have difficulty selli...

Re: Birth Notifications

Morning Rob, By registering/birth notifying our Dexters we are able to prove the provenance of the beef. When selling through the Traditional Breed Meat Marketing scheme we have to state the sire and dam on a form, both of which have to be registered with the DCS. Take a look at other native breed c...

Re: Birth Notifications

We register most of our females; with just one or two being birth notified only. Thank goodness we do register females, having just lost a lovely 24 month old in calf heifer to TB and a payment on its way for £2,113; a few days earlier she would have been under 24 months and we would have received £1...

Re: 2 ROTTWEILER DOGS LOOKING FOR GOOD HOME

Hi Lisa, Try Rotweiller Rescue who will ensure the dogs are put in a place of safety where they can be assessed and returned to good health. Once they're fit and ready to go they will be found a suitable home, hopefully together. There is also the Dogs Trust who have kennels in various parts of the ...
