Hi some great helpful replies, thanks,
the book sounds interesting for us smallholders.
Fed the cabbages in small quantitys this morning and was well accepted, our steer is very greedy, and devoured the first lot quickly followed by the rest !
Thanks for all the replies.
Hi has anyone fed Brassicas in particular cabbage, we have a glut at the moment, and not sure if its digestible, perhaps it needs to be shredded/chopped, any advice would be welcome,
Really lovely photos Dom, grass looks good too !!!
We did much the same today, walked the fields, and found quite a bit of Ragwort, so removed very quickly, has anyone else had problems with Ragwort, as I gather if cut is lethal for cattle.
I think we recently mentioned problems with flies, we have just used 'Spot On' which I have to say has eradicated any problem we had, animals now free of the problem, which also treats Lice.
Great Photos Ann, and interesting to hear that explanations were given to participants in respect of standard etc, hopefully we may have a calf for the next show if handling goes according to plan !!
Ours vary considerably, some are looking very scrappy, although others are silky black, do the reds take longer to look better ?
In Yorkshire our grass is still patchy in places, but some help from the rain last week has provided momentum
Thanks Louise we only have about 5 acres, split 50/50, so cattle are on a good field at present whilst I work on the other that they overwintered on, it has got grass, but not great quality, will try ahrrowing first and reseedin August, but thanks for your valued advice. Have my calf to Ear Tag tom...
Thanks both for the great advice, i will plough on with harrowing and reseeding, thanks for the hints on Cotswold seeds, especially already fertilised.
