Re: Birth Notifications
At a recent "Council On Tour" neeting the question of finance was raised and if I remember correctly the Society coffers contains something around £160 per member. It was also pointed out to Council that the Dexter Beef Certification costs had been met by membership but Council felt we mem...

Re: Melton Mowbray Sale 14th Sept 2013
Not sure if I am reading catalogue correctly as regards semen for sale; but it sounds like even if you buy those where the Society has some in their long term bank then "Big Brother" tells you how to use it !!!

Re: Council Resignation
What a tragedy! I thought that all of this secrecy was a thing of the past. As an ex Council member myself I know exactly where you are coming from. I too thought that new ideas would help the breed, but sadly the non-workers on Council stifle and out-vote any development ideas and as you say member...

Beef Certification Mark
What a shame the Society has seen fit to charge members extra for use of the Certification Mark. I would have thought it would be something we are all entitled to use. The increase in herd book cost will probably mean that for the first time in my 28 years membership I will not buy one; and I can as...

Re: interesting article in Shropshire Star
"Miss Lloyd remembers" is an autobiography written when Miss Lloyd was 103 and contains details of her Pentre Hobyn herd. The books were available fron the Dexter Cattle Society - don't know if still available.

Stoneleigh Sale
What is happening at Rugby Farmers Mart? The Stoneleigh show 5 days away, sale six days and still no sign of a catalogue. Talk about cutting it fine. I presume there are Dexters entered?

Re: Melton Catalogue 8th Sept
On Ringworm - it used to be a winter problem and a bit of sun in the spring cleared it up. Don't tell the vet but I have had success treating it with "Athlete's Foot" treatment cream.

For those long time members, sorry to have to report that Maureen passed away on January 2nd. She and her late husband, John, were stalwarts of the Dexter breed and helped its survival in the sixties/seventies. Maureen was an Honorary member of the Society in recognition of all the work she and John...

Dexter Height on Breed Standard
Is it time that the breed dispensed with height limits on the breed standard? As a European Cattle Society it is not possible to refuse registration of a calf if the parents are fully registered animals in the Socity Herd Book. In the past it has been the shorts that most have strived to produce; bu...
