Re: Prime Cattle Wanted, or Not

I know, but I didn't even know if the stock I'd been offered were Farm Assured so I was hoping to pass on details. It's hard to work out if it's worth someone getting farm assured just to sell on a one-off. I haven't bothered with farm assurance since FABBL when they effectively rubber-stamped my fa...

Re: Beef Prices

My 'average' price not including offal is now £15 per kg but that also includes delivery but not vac-packing.

Tempting?

I've been asked if I would sell one of my best breeding bulls, and although I had no intention of selling him and planned to use him in the herd for the next few years I did give it serious consideration. Having concluded that we could spare him for a few years until we can rear a son as a replaceme...

Re: Dexter Bull Beef

It always pays to work out the options as things like slaughter and packing costs can vary so much. We have bought bulls in at half the price of steers and castrated them but found they don't yield as well as equivalent steers because they don't have the same level of finish on them even at a later ...

My first cow had Templeton blood in her and my memory is of the kindest judge with a genuine interest in all the cattle and exhibitors.

Re: Cull cow

We can slaughter our own cattle locally up to 72 months but after that we send them straight to Taylors at Bamber Bridge, who advertise in the Farmers Guardian. Unfortunately they only seem to cover Lancs, Cumbria, Cheshire & Yorkshire, though. It's a real shame as cow beef is perfactly good eat...

Re: Dexters on the telly

True enough, many of the species they were looking for through the series are in good numbers round here but several of the field shots and drone footage at the beginning was here on the main farm too. Still, 10 camera operator days went into that short bit...

Re: More press for Dexters

The Yorkshire Post seems to love Dexters - I was asked to do one recently but had to turn it down for other reasons. Then there was Walbut Dexters in, too.
