Re: Dexter Bull wanted to Hire

I would think 99% of people on here would want pedigree stock. You probably need to think which route you want to go down. There are costs with pedigree but if the dreaded TB hits you will get a better deal I believe, plus the stock is usually worth a bit more.

Re: Bull Beef

I have found that grading varies with each abattoir, some grade dexters accurately and some are a mile out making it a bit of a joke. As long as you are happy , and your butcher, then that's the main thing.

Re: Bull Beef

Your carcass scores are showing very lean on the hook, I would prefer more fat but it looks like you got a good price.

Re: Early turn out

Dry as a bone here in Leicetershire, it surley has to be the driest February I have experienced, cattle still inside though. If I turn out early the cattle are always ahead of the grass, I prefer it the other way round.

Re: Bull Beef

I have never done it, I would assume that the feeding of nuts would impact on the quality of the beef, ie, not as good as grass fed. I have also been told bull beef is not as good.

Dexter short heifers wanted

A Farm Park has asked if I can find 2 short black weaned heifers which are tested for BVD, IBR and Johnes. They need to be polled or properly dehorned and have a good temperament. Customer will pay for the blood tests. They are based in Buckinghamshire and hoping to purchase in the late summer/autum...

Re: Farmers Country Showdown TV

Wow Wow Wow
Just what the Dexters are about. What a fantastic show. Team Creighton versus Team Moomin.
Di and Robin did the breed proud. If you missed it get on I-player and enjoy.

All the best

Post some decent pictures and we can say what we think, the older they get the easier it is visually to tell.
